Moving in together after 6 months — too soon?

My lease is up in March and my boyfriend suggested I move in with him. We've been together 6 months and honestly things are great. But everyone I talk to says it's too soon. We practically live together already since I'm at his place 5 nights a week. My mom thinks I should wait at least a year. What's been your experience with moving in? When did you know it was the right time?
